TLuker --- What don't you like about the 22/45? I have one. I love those Ruger Mark III's.
Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I can't stand the thought of it having a plastic frame. I love the Mark II's and III's myself, but they have a metal frame.

The best SHTF pistol is the OYSB (one you shoot best) hopefully one that can give a one or two shot kill or an incapacitating wound. That all depends on hitting vital zones.

It is hard to say what the best shtf guns are since we really do not know what the situation will be. If you are facing unruly mobs or gangs you will need firepower. If the population is decimated and you are surviving, there are totally different needs. On the run you need light weight and stealth. One pair of guns is not going to do it all. Unless you are in a group, you wont be taking big game and snares or traps would be a good solution. Husband and wife or a team should have matching weapons so there is interchangeability.

There is a reason the Sig motto is "To Hell and Back"

Sig P226 9mm

If it's good enough for the Navy SEALS then it's good enough for me.

I have spent a long time debating the same question you're now asking. For SHTF you can't go wrong with a 9mm. Personally I'm going with 40s&w because I own a glock23 BUT you should honestly invest in a Glock 17... They withstand more torture tests than any other firearm...and they always shoot afterward...sounds like a gun you can depend on now doesn't it this weapon will hold 17,19 and even 33 rounds!!! Don't settle for anything else, when SHTF you'll be wishing you had a glock trust me.

In terms of versatility, it would be the Medusa revolver, provided it doesn't break.
