Its a 50 BMG upper for the AR platform. The interesting part is its bolt action. When I saw it in a magazine they called it the "SHTF 50" Its really called the Tactilite T2 made by Zel Custom. The T2 version has a detachable magazine

I have the AR with 16", 20" and & 1/2" barrels. Also 870 Magnum, and an AR S&W M&P in 5.45X39. Also have several handguns from 9mm to Colt 45, as well as .31, .44, and .50 cal black pwoder. Lots of ammo, conical lead projectiles, pwder, primers, and percussion caps#'s 10 and 11. Decisions, decisions. I have very remote 6 acres with a bold spring in an isolated mountain region. I hope to stay put, but we,ve all got to die sometime. I may as well die here. |

Since I am too fat & lazy to run off in a SHTF event, I like a different type of gun, out of two guns I'll take my Browning 1919 belt fed .308 with a crank fire, and my AOW Saiga 12 Ga with a 10" barrel & folding stock and a pile of 12 rd stick mags loaded with 3" magnum rounds. That should keep the cops & the criminals away for a bit... |

Mine are 870 12ga 30" full, 20 'screw in chokes, and Hastings rifled slug bbl, .45 ACP 1911, and M1 Garand. Why did I pick these? Cause it's what I Have and I know them. Knowing your arms is more important than what you have.
If that Inuit girl can kill a brown bear with a single shot .22 then I guess my guns will do.
If I were able to go out and buy guns just for this senario I would go with the rest of the group and get a Beretta Px and Cx Storm both in .45 ACP. Since I'm retired and have no extra $$ I'll make do with what I have. Lots of ammo for what you have is more important than anything else.
Just my 2 farthings worth. |

If the SHTF you definately don't want to have to reload a lever action or a revolver. You have to go with something with mags and lots of them. I would have to agree with ar or in any other country ak because as you knockem down pick up their ammo. For handgun I would preffer 45 but the 9mm would be easier to get ammo. __________________ "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. When the SHTF - FOOD, water and self defence are the issues as i see it. I have the Rossi match set 22, 20 guage and 243 for anything from rabbit to turkey to deer (can add other barrels, a nice simple system) . Also have several handguns of same caliber as well as a carbine of same caliber to extend pistol range and a Mossberg 12 guage for the house. There are a couple of others i want to add soon as i believe it's coming in my life time! I'm guessing it'll start - if not within the next 5 years, for sure the next 10. (see album pics) |

Kind of surprised that only two people mentioned any sort of shotgun. Seems to me that a 12ga is imperative. After that you have to decide whether you want the portability of a handgun (.45 or .357) or the reach out and touch of a long gun. I don't think an AR is really the best choice either. Let me qualify this:
When I picture SHTF, I think of "The Road". Being on the move, rather than holed up in my home. It's just the way I see it. Living in Dallas, I don't see a way to survive off the land, unless you happen to be inclined towards cannibalism. I tried a garden this year and the yield was low to pathetic. Being from the PNW, I find that unacceptable. After the initial panic has subsided, I would truly try to find a way to make it back to the left coast. |

My best SHTF gun pair would be Robo & Jack (with whatever they felt like carrying)... |

Actually, the AR with the 1/2"bl, should read 7 1/2"bl. It's a Carbon 15 AR pistol. I also have a Marlin 29 with draganov stock and 120 rounds on board with arrow shaft speedloaders and a skinning knife; my grab and go survival/hunting rifle. I have 60 gr bullets, Colibri SSS, sub-sonics, CB caps, and hyper-velocity special loads. It will do a lot, and some very quietly. Also have a camoflaged 1022 with assorted mags. A 7X57 mauser, 2 SMLE's, a Belgium made double SXS 12 guage, a browning A5 Sweet Sixteen made in 1954 (still shoots fine), a Mosin Nagant, another Mauser in .308, a H&K 91, a FN FAL, and an old Ruger Standard (pre-MK I) semi pistol. The Ruger Pistol was a gift on the day of my birth from my dad's dad, the sweet Sixteen, a gift from my mom's dad on the day I was born. Got a Winchester 94 in 30-30, a Marlin in 30-30, and an Anshutz 22 with a 4X Leupold compact scope that will take the eye out of a sparrow at 40 yds. I had to beef up the floor joist in my house to hold the weight of the ammo. I would have a hard time narrowing it down to 2, but if forced to, I guess I would take the 91 and the Carbon 15, or maybe the M4 and the Dan Wesoon 357, or maybe the FN FAL and the 1858 Remington. I think I'll just stay put, as my neighbors are all meaner than striped snakes, and they'll have to get past them to get to us. Heck, I'm about tired of this side of life anyway. May as well have a really exciting day and go out in a blaze of glory. I don't fear death near as much as living. |

Im surprised no one has mentioned the SKS yet (if they did then i must of missed it) You have good accuracy with a round thats around the power of a 30-30 in a 10-30 round cap semi auto.
Dont know what id have as a secondary.
in a SHTF scenario you dont wanna stick around and fight, you wanna scoot and avoid it as much as possible. If people wanna fight, let em fight among themselves. Get what you need and get the boots movin. Starchy foods and complex carbs are good. Crackers, bread, rice... lots of it. stuff like that.
Also if you plan on using a vehichle dont syphon gas tanks it takes WAY too long, get under it and punch a hole in the tank and get goin. Speed is the key, cant go lookin for trouble or else you'll get in over your head and just cause trouble for other people who are just trying to get away.
I live in michigan So i would try to get across the bridge and hide up north... lots of nothin up there. |
