I keep two at the ready for a SHTF situation. I know several people will call BS but I use the Hi Point C9 and the 995. Both are 9mm easy to find. You can use the mags out of the 995 in the C9 and they just keep shooting. I have tourture tested both of them and until there is mudd in the action they just keep shooting. Two small weapons and 1 ammo. Though I have to admit when they come out with the 45 in the carbine in Aug I will upgrade my set then and have two sets. |

Whats the Top one I like it and with a beta mag you would be set. Intresting concept luke. __________________ Admiral Yamamoto: "You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass."

I've given thought to this, believe me. I think AR or AK, but then I think about birds and hunting, you're gonna need a shotgun. Well, 12 ga is the solution. You can take squirrels to a Grizzly bear with Hornady SST slugs. Great self defense round too. And I did some contemplating on the ONE gun for this situation, and came up with a 30-06/ 12 ga over under, yeah.
But the other would have to be a 6.5 Grendel 20 inch Overwatch with a 4.5-14x50 Nikon mounted on top. Sounds good to me |

Since i can only have 2 i would have to take either a ar15 or a m1a as my primary and my Xdm 9mm as my side arm. all have a vast amount of ammo out there and are easy to carry and what im good with. plus in the hills and mountains of East Tn you can take a deer and other things with a 556 but id prefer a .308 instead for the bigger stuff and longer shots. have to agree with what someone said earlier one of the kids/wife would have a 22lr or 12ga. |

The more I think about this, the more it makes sense to stay basic. A 12 gauge shotgun (pump or auto) with a good supply of varied ammunition would work nicely. Self defense loads, slugs, bird shot...the only problem would come in case there was a need for long-range shooting. That could be addressed with the second weapon I suppose, but in most SHTF situations, I don't see dealing with snipers a common issue as much as killing something for food or protecting you safe place from invaders. For that reason, I would probably opt for a .22 carbine as the second weapon. Ammo for both should be easy to come by, and both are easily stockpiled now. |

For the handgun, it's my 1911. For a long gun, I have four choices: a Mini 14, a scoped 1917 Eddystone, a Mossberg 500 with an 18.5" barrel and a 10/22.
The Mini could handle relatively short range and food gathering. The Eddystone could handle long range, and the Mossberg would be for up close and personal. I would leave the 10/22 buried somewhere.
If there was a bunch of humping involved, the Mini is my choice. Obviously, for stand off shooting from a fixed position, the 1917 works. The shotgun would be for a last ditch/CQB situation.
It will all depend on how things unfold, how much time there is and if I have any latitude to even have choices.
I'm sixty years old and I don't plan on doing much running and hiding.

I also like the idea of .357/38 in long gun and handgun. Unless you can find a handgun in 30 aught to match my M1.... __________________ 9x18=Makarov |
