This may be a little off subject but just thought of this if zombies are attracted to sound get some air horns and tape down the button and roll it
But here my .02 the 2 3/4 12 gauge or 3 because these will fit most any shotgun

I actually do have a compound bow and arrows for it. It is very effective, not too noisy and you can re-use the arrows. Didn't serve the Native Americans so well but I'll keep them around (the Native Americans as well as the bow and arrows).
Personally I would prefer to have a variety of guns available to make use of any ammo I can scavenge if I don't get a firearm with the stash of ammo. Make the best of the worst situation.

Some hand loaders have loaded 1 or 2 147 grn .357 hollow base wadcutters as slug loads. No choke. The 3" buckshot load is outstanding with 5 000 buck.

The .410 is the same power as a .357 and lb. and size wise has been considered by backpackers for generations as the WORST round to bother carrying. Sorry.

Really? Then wouldn't the .22 Mag be twice as good? Twice a s powerful, basically all the other same features and benefits of the .22 LR. Gotta stop buying what people say just because they happen to own it and repeat someone elses such thoughtless nonsense.

Id have to agree.
+1
I think less important isthe 12 g though. There will be a lot of shells around but i think 90% of them will be bird shot. And that's good for one thing only, the bird-pocalypse.
I would put .22 lr on there but that's also a smei-useless round.
quiet = yes
more ammo = yes
but doesn't hit hard enough to kill much above small dogs and cats.

+1, though .357 is up there too.

That's really an unacceptable, POS, statement. Is that what you'd like your neighbors to do, getting thru your family members one at a time, till they get to you? Sounds fair to me in your case and I wish you and your poor family the absolute worst luck.
Something tells me Darwin has you at the bottom of the survival-of-the-fittest list boy...
