Walmart will have the 100 packs of 12 and 20 ga. Federal and Winchester shells for $18 on Friday. Good day to stock up if you want to get out in a crowd.

Regarding you basic question regarding the 12 Ga ammunition! First of all it depends on the shotgun and the choke you chose. You never want to shoot slugs or buck from a full choke shotgun !!!!! So first of all I would not choose a full choke shotgun if it has a fixed barrel and without changeable choke tubes. So with that in mind I would choose a modified or improved cylinder. I would purchase 6 shot for supplying my self with food, slugs for deer and medium game and slugs and 00 Buck for ZOMBIES!!! One of my friends buys a box of 12 ga shotgun shells and a box of 22s each week when he takes his wife to Wal-Mart Shopping each week. He has a considerable amount of ammunition at the present. Also it is good for trade and barter should the SHTF with our monetary system. As far as other calibers 223/5.56 could be worth alot as trade or barter even if you did not have that caliber of weapon as well as the 7.62X39. 30-06, 308, 270 and others. Something to think about!

I'd stay away from the exotic stuff (flame thrower, flechettes, etc) and go with as many boxes of birdshot and buckshot and slugs you can afford.

What kind of gun are you getting? Fixed or removable or no choke?

Wolf brand 00 buck is reasonably priced, as low as $2.99 per 5 pack. Sometimes you can find Winchester military grade buckshot on sale, $3.99 per 5 pack. I like both Federal and Fiocchi shotgun ammo for hunting.

Never heard, don't use buck in a full choke. That is the only choke I've ever used for buck and have always had great performance. Slugs are another issue.

A choke tube would be best so you can have more of a one gun fits all.

You may want to do more reserach on what you want to do.

Here's some basic tests you may want to look at.

Good luck on your new shotgun.

They must have a jerk for a store manager there. I had a friend pick up a box each of 12 and 20 for me at the Junction City store here in Kansas at the cheap price. It was advertised nationally as one of their sporting goods Black Friday sales.
