Yeah, Amish are not "out" of electricity, but they are definitely "off" the grid.

They use nat. gas., diesel, gasoline, solar and hydro. to generate electricity, but nothing hooked to the regional grid!

I asked one of my close neighbors about electric use, after I saw him install solar panels on his barn. He said that the "church" made a decision upon inception, that electricity wouldn't be piped in from the "English" (us), however as other non-grid options have become available, they have adopted them.

Yeah, I was aware they use generators, but I thought only for specific uses, not general use like lighting a house, or cooking, etc......no, I have not "studied" them, but we have vacationed several times in the Lancaster, PA area, and have talked to some of them, and stopped at their farm stands, and also at one of their information centers.....

I only use electricity for certain applications; like light, heat, air, cooking, computer, clocks, television, etc.

The ones I know use electricity only when absolutely needed, which is rare.

Were they going down an Obama highway... paved with good intentions?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Everyone that is not prepared will be your zombies!! The zombies want what u have or maybe even want ur flesh!!! If you have no means of food, water, shelter, and protection then you will die an its as simple as that!! Have a plan before its to late. Lets face it these are times of uncertainly an it's not looking to bright for old mother liberty!!!

I wasn't asserting that the Amish use electricity just for fun & games. They mainly use it for charging batteries, such as those used to power their buggy lights, or for barn lighting & milking parlors.
