I hunt elk near Lowman, ID which is where one of if not the largest pack of wolves is in Idaho. I had shot my elk and my deer for 4 straight years before being stationed in Georgia. My father has shot his elk every other year for 8 years now and his deer all but this last season (he only hunted 6 days). I sat for 4 hours one day just watching a group of 6 wolves play and sleep on the side of a ridge. After watching them I moved over 2 ridges and found a group of 15 elk. I have seen every animal every year to fill my sportsman package. The herds now are stronger and bigger animals we have noticed. Road hunting may not work anymore but that is why we are successful. Chased my big bull for 3 days and took us 5 days to backpack all of him out. Side note- we hung the carcass and need around the tree, nothing messed with it while we were gone. Personally my hunting has been easier, in my opinion, since wolves have helped move them around. |
