I was out today, no luck. I did find where a pack was trailing a moose for a long way. The moose turned and stood his ground several times where s/he had a mountainside or sharp drop-off to protect his back. I never got to the end of the tracks so don't know how it turned out. Never saw any wolves, either.

I thought some members who don't live in timber wolf country might like to see what a track looks like. This one's a day or a day-and-half old and we had warmish days so the the edges are pretty dull, but you'll get the drift. That's a .25-06 round for perspective.

I have honestly never hunted any game that can and will hunt me. The saying, "The thrill is in the hunt" should really apply here... Great post OP!

Wolves won't attack you. Have there been wolf attacks? Yes. But there have also been racoon attacks and black bear attacks but I don't think that would qualify either of them as "dangerous game"

Wolves are extremely smart and come with a complete set of senses. They are unlike anything else I have hunted. For example, I have sat still and watched wolves in binoculars watching me. Unreal.

Yes, it was a great OP. I hope for more.

Thanks to Admin for removing Tapatalk screens, I can again post to this forum!

A few items in the continuing wolf control may be entertaining:

Here's a story told in fresh snow...
I had set an offset jaw wolf trap on their trail that paralled this small creek. I came from the left on skidoo checking my sets when I saw just a flash of fur (see tracks in deep snow).
The wolf ran away from me directly toward my red flagging tape. He then spooked back toward my general direction and right into my set!
I pulled up seconds later and as you can see, he seems to be examining the trap, not jumping or fighting. The offset jaws are a good change as they do not crush the bones.

edit: picture never posted, retry.

Rick you sound like a dues paying "Green". Wolf attacks are very common in the West and Alaska. Most are not reported it is shoot, shovel and shut up.

There have been humans attacked and killed by wolves. The "Media" is not reporting it the way they should.
Wolves do not go in for the quick kill. They go for the guts and animals are eaten alive.
