Why hate Coyotes
Why do so many people enjoy shooting coyotes and crows, can you actually eat these animals?

Coyotes predate livestock, especially the smaller species such as sheep and fowl. I will do my part to keep the prices of meat down. Crows can strip a vegetable garden in minutes; they also can decimate a pecan crop over a growing season.
So, in effect, they are vermin. Don't get hung up on eating what you shoot. That is a red herring tactic used by anti-hunters. There are several reasons for hunting, and food is only one of them. Some others that come to mind are disease control, domicile preservation, and physical safety.
You can eat crow, and I have on occasion. Coyote fur is superb for clothing.

I think we've all been forced to eat crow from time to time

Crows raid song bird nest for eggs and babies. I have seen them pull hatchlings out of martin houses. I will kill every one that I can.

Crows are fun to shot
I love shooting crows. They have great eye sight and will spook in a second. The best decoy is a live one. Farmers like it when I come and hunt them.

We don't _hate_ coyotes. In fact I respect them and like them, they perform a valuable function in the eco-system.
I doubt any dog-shooter wants them to be extinct. we just want their numbers reduced. locally.
When I see 'yotes way out in the bush, several leagues from the nearest farm, I leave them unmolested.
Mosquitoes on the other hand, I'd like to see go extinct!

yotes
With the urban sprawl comes a quandry. The coyotes are very adaptable, 100 years ago there were none east of the Mississippi. They now are in all 49 continental states. They predate everything from mice to cats to dogs to cows. They are not being thinned appropriately because people are afraid to shoot them in built up areas. There are more now than ever before.
THIN EM OUT!

So you're saying human expansion has provided a more beneficial and plentiful environment for them? Gee, why haven't I read that in the New York Times? [/sarcasm]

The Missouri and Mississippi Rivers were natural barriers to coyotes until bridges were built.
