In the bottoms 20feet to 125 yards. In the clear cuts from as close up 10 feet out to 400 with maybe 85 to 125 the majority.

Hi Davey. I like to keep it simple. I use a Marlin model 1894 lever action 44 mag with open sights. You'd be hard pressed to find a handier little rifle. Rather than cover an open field, I like to sit in the woods, so my shots are under 50 yards. But I practice a lot out to 100 yards.

Most important thing is to have a good time. I'd rather not get a deer but have a good time then to get a deer but not have a good time in the woods.

My deer last fall was 378 yards according to my GPS, one shot to the back of the neck. My shots are all over 250 and a few over 400 here in open country.

The woods are pretty thick here in north west pa. It's rare to have a line of sight of more than 75-80 yards. I did get one off of our island on the allegheny from the bank. Couldn't pace it off but I estimate about 200 yards
