I got a 30-30 and deciding on getting a scope for it or stick with iron sight the dealer at my local turners said that if I get the scope a good scope is $300. Do you think its worth it or should I practice long range at about 200 yards max for medium size game like deer or wild hog |

I bought a used Weaver Grand Slam for $170 (IIRC) and I couldn't be happier.

If your budget is set, check Nikon Buckmaster http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Buckmasters-3-9x40mm-Nikoplex-Matte/dp/B0007P4GXU/ref=sr_1_7?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1324181340&sr=1-7 or Prostaff http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-ProStaff-Black-Matte-Riflescope/dp/B004MY5L9U/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1324181340&sr=1-1 __________________ “Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.”

I would put a decent 4x32 or 2-7x32 on it. You do not have to spend $300 to get a good scope. The 30-30 is a mild recoiling rifle too. Look at a Nikon Prostaff or Redfield Revolution. __________________ Winchester 100 .243; Marlin XS7 .308; Stevens 200 .223; Rossi 92 .45LC; Marlin 1894C .357M; Marlin 30AS .30-30; NEF Pardner Pump 12ga; Mossberg 500 Turkey 20ga; Winchester 1200 20ga; Savage Mark II F .22LR; Henry H001 .22LR; Marlin 60SB .22LR; Ruger 10/22 DSP .22LR; Savage 93R17 GV .17HMR; Remington Genesis .50 cal ML; Ruger Vaquero .45LC; Ruger Blackhawk .357M; Ruger SR9c 9mm; Ruger Single-Six .22LR; Browning Buck Mark Camper .22LR; Crosman Powermaster 760 .177; Crosman Storm XT .177 |

Here's a few options.
Walmart has a Bushnell 4-12x40 that's typically in stock in sporting goods. They're about $68. I got a few a couple years back for $35 each and ran then on a .22, .223, .270, and 30-06. They all held perfect Zero for hundreds of rounds. Thousands in the 22 and 223 .
Leupold 3-9x40 vx-II should be about $200-300. Lifetime warranty.
Or, Midway USA has the Simmons Whitetail Classic 5-20x50 that's lifetime warranty for $109. It it too much scope for a 30-30, but its decent glass for a fair price. __________________ I could make a list of a bunch of guns i have, or "have", or wish I had. Why do you feel it necessary to list your guns? |

You really think a cheap scope will keep its zero on a 30-30 |

If I am looking for myself and only have $200, I would buy the Nikon BuckMaster based on countless endorsements/reviews from people here whose opinions I respect.
My brother-in-law have the cheaper Nikon ProStaff in his .308 and they work very well too. He did pay more than $200 for his ProStaff (after tax) locally.
Take it for what it's worth. __________________ “Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.”
