My first was a Marlin 30-30 Lever that I still have and occasionally take hunting. I've got a lot of wonderful memories of hunting with that rifle!

I must be one of the few that never owned a lever gun!!

MO It does seem like even today those old 788's still fech a price that higher than many current good rifles today. Crasy.

Still have my 788 in .308....first rifle of any kind...left handed, nonetheless!

mine was a winchester model 70 african express in 458winmag. bought it on special order when i turned 18 had a 6 month wait to get it. still have it and shoot it today. its prolly my favorite rifle if i had to pick just one.

Grandma's Winchester 70 243. Dandy ol gun.
The first I owned was a 700 CDL 7mm Rem Mag.

Those Marlin 30-30s are some hunters now,nice first choice.

hardluk1 I'm in the same camp,the only lever action I ever owned was a Daisy lol...I'm gonna need to change that and find a lever action one day.

Yes those Rem 788s are bringing some high prices,very nice bolt actions.

JonM That's one sweet rifle! When I was looking for my first deer rifle(1975) the clerk at Western Auto was trying to sell me a Winchester 458 Win Mag.

That was quite a leap from the 243 to the 7mm rem mag...Love those 7mm rem mags.

Yeah the 7mm Rem Mag was a big step up, I should not have taken that big a step up at that age but I did and I hunted with the 7mm RM for 11 years before moving east and I had no need for anything like that, sold the 7mm and got a 6.5x55 and have never looked back.
