What rifle do you carry? What is your sidearm?
I will limit this to hunting only deer/elk and feral boars.
For Deer .308 ruger, sidearm is 9mm beretta.
For elk .30-06 ruger, sidearm is .44mag blackhawk
Same for boars, except the .44mag will have buffalo bore bullets, instead of standard federal.

I have none of these things to hunt. I carry a .338 Win mag and a .22 sidearm in case signal shots are needed. I carry a folding slingshot for small game. 44mag under head at night.

Here in Ohio, hunters are limited to the possession of one legal firearm for hunting deer. It is also a shotgun state, no high powered rifles.
So, I use my 12 ga pump or .50 cal muzzleloader. No sidearm
Please check your local laws in terms of legality for your stituation.

Whitetail deer I use a Rem700 in 7mm stw if i plan to hunt large fields or gas/powerlines. Rem 7600 in 35 Whelen usually in the woods. Unless I get nostalgic and take out my G'paps old Rem 141 Gamemaster in 35 Rem.
Same rifles for black bear. Haven't got after Elk/Boars etc.......yet
Don't usually carry a sidearm when rifle hunting, but do carry my 45acp when Archery or Flintlock hunting
