looking at buying this gun and looking for some first hand feedback positive and negative. will be mainly a whitetail long range gun gun but wll be going west for mulies and elk.. 270wsm

They shoot great but I highly recommend adding a limbsaver recoil pad and a Holland's muzzle brake....have the performance and all but eliminate the snappy recoil..will shoot like a 223 !

Used to own a Ruger mdl 77 .300 Win Mag with a muzzle brake. Shot real nice, however I eventually let it go as it was simply too noisy. Thought if I ever got the urge for a long range .30 cal again, I would probably go with the .300 WSM. They are supposed to be a little easier on the shoulder, but can't verify that personally. Dan

While I like the round, I don't favor the action choice. I am about 95% done with a review of three common rifle actions ( Remington 700, Winchester Model 70, & Howa 1500 ), so if you can wait a couple of more days, I think you will glean some real word knowledge from one of the most knowledgable gunsmiths I have ever met.

Remington actions are strong and generally accurate. I, for one, do not buy into the current short magnum craze. Ammo is expensive and harder to find than "traditional" calibers. IMHO there is nothing wrong with the .270 for deer. Plenty of different loads available form the major manufacturers. For that matter a .30-06, .308 or .25-06 are all the deer rifle most will ever need. The only reasons for getting the "magnums" are really long shots (500 + yards) or penile compensation. Many folks make the "bigger (faster) is better" decision with out any good reason. If you cannot accurately place a shot, you cannot be successful in your hunt. If the rifle recoils to excess you are much more likely to develop a flinch that will cause a miss or (worse) bad hit.

Recent data acquired would suggest that "strong" and "generally accurate" would be relative terms in regards to other actions on the market. No doubt Remington is the most popular, but definitely not the best production action by a long shot ( pun intended )

Im 13 i have a browning 270wsm if yout looking for info on the recoil, its not bad but my gun is so light that it just jumps up really bad
