Better? Depends on purpose intended.

The recurve is easier to learn and alot more powerful. Mainly it comes down to what you want to do with them.

A recurve bow will give a faster arrow velocity vs. a long bow of equal draw weight. A well made recurve is also perhaps one of the most beautiful objects ever created by the hand of man.
The longbow is the weapon of myth and legend. It is the weapon of Robin Hood and Agincourt.

It all depends on the shooter and the purpose. I have owned and shot longbows for over 10 years, and I can tell you from experience it takes a lot of practice especially if you do instinctive shooting like I do.

I have a Damon Howatt custom hunter. It is a piece of art.
I had it listed FS on another site.

That is a sweet looking rig for sure!

I have been told by those "in the know" that my Bear Kody is a highly collectible and sought after item...this one isnt for sale but folks have offered STOOPID $$$ for it....said to be Fred Bears favorite bow.

This one Fred made for my dad. (some of my earliest recollections of hunting camp have Fred in them...i guess i was a goner from the git go)

The bow i cut my teeth on...

The evolution of FMJ and archery...

well all depends on what you want to do with it, like target shooting both are good some longbows can have a pretty heavy pull, if you get your hands on a tradition style english longbow some of them can have a 100 pound pull on them, if you get one made by bear or someone along those lines there not that bad. But I like the recurve better because if you do do any hunting with it it's easier to use in brush.

If your newer to archery I would get a break down recurve, there basiclly a compound but instead of cams and all that they have recurve limbs, you can put sights and all that jazz as you could with a regular compound.
