Pistol Hunting
Any pistol hunters out there?
I've never been but watching it on TV it looks like a thrill. Seems much more complex and skillful in hunting with a pistol compared to a long rifle.

It is one thing that I want to do badly. I shot a hog twice with a 357 mag. S&W 27 and it ran forever and I never did recover it. But they were not well placed shots from 40 yds. away.

I hunt with two different handguns; A RSH 44 Mag with a 9.5" barrel with a Leupold 2x8 and use it will take most big game, although I would not hunt a Grizzly Bear with it. The other is a Encore Pistol .308 with a 15" ported barrel with a Burris 3-12x 32mm Ballistic Plex Reticle. This pistol can take all big game in Arizona and most likely in CONUS (Lower 48 States), and it is good for about a 500 yard shot, I also have the the rifle in .308 good at a 1000 yard shot in competition

I use a S&W Model 19-4 .357 6" barrel for whitetail. It is ambush hunting!! Shots are very close. 158gr JSP work very well over 296.

I'd rather my own son see me die on my feet as a free man, than watch him go, broken, into slavery.

I've got a .357 mag, S&W 65 and I'd like to hear more about this. I think it would be cool to hunt with it, but I worry about failure to stop the animal. I would like to hunt deer with it, so lets hear about it.

Whitetail hunting with a 44mag
I've been hunting whitetails with a 44mag and am loving it. I have a Remington Super Redhawk with a 9.5inch barrel with a scope on it; sometimes I'm almost not sure it qualifies as a pistol it's so huge.
I've had no issues with it during hunting, and have taken 5 deer in four seasons with it. Two of these ran less than 50 yards after my shot before dropping, and the others just dropped right on the spot.
It did take a little getting used to though, since a pistol is a little harder to stablize for a shot. The first deer I took with it was a spike buck, after my shot I could see an exit wound (so I thought), but he just ran about 20 yards or so, and stood still again. I decided to try a head shot to finish him off without wasting any more meat - and with that shot he dropped in place. Come to find out, my first shot only grazed him (creating a red spot on his back I thought was an exit wound) and my second shot (when I was calmer, knowing it was just a followup shot) had nailed him in the head.
Hopefully I've gotten more accurate, but still feel the gun is more accurate than I am

I just added a profile pic of my gun and a buck I took with it, so I thought I'd post again to see if my profile picture will show up...

Reason: sorry. didn't realize I just needed the pic for an "avatar" instead of a profile pic.
