Pictures from the Boss' Big Hunt
Third attempt. Man this is frustrating.
Okay, so I have talked about my boss' vaunted shooting skills on many of an occassion and here is some proof.
This 6 x 6 Elk was taken at about 11,000 feet in Wyoming on a hunting trip Don Rose just got back from.
This was a 293 yard downhill shot of about 30 degrees from a cold bore and resulted in a one shot, one stop on this big bastard.
The weapon was built by Brett Evans of N.W. Armswerkes and is a Winchester Model 70, chambered in .338 Winchester, with a 23", #6 Krieger barrel that is heavily fluted to save on weight.
The round impacted the animal in the shoulder, punched through both lungs and stopped in the guts somewhere. The animal staggered about 10-12 yards and bled out in less than a minute.
Rack measured out at about 300 for those that are interested.
Ended up with just under 290 pounds of hanging meat after dress out.
Enjoy

Very nice. Elk is some of the best eating big game animal, if not the best, imo.
Sounds like one heck of a good shot as well.

That should make a beautiful hat rack. Though i don't drive in that area, i do appreciate your boss taking down a jaywalker; he might have saved a life and a car (not just a compact car from the look of that monster ).

Orange - He was 28 miles from a tail head, in horseback only country. Plus he was at 11,000 feet outside of Yellowstone by about a mile. No chance of a car getting out there. Even one of those Jeepers.
Side note, one of the guides stuck himself something fierce in the leg with his skinning knife, stuck it into the Femur, but missed the Femural Artery. Luckily.
They had to airlift him out or he would probably have died.

Good, that means one of the suburban jaywalkers can now relocate to a better/safer area for all of us.

That's just too cool! I've never eaten elk. Ate buffalo while on vacation in Montana, but missed out on the elk.

Damn Nice kill!! Wish I'd done that when I was younger. Just don't hold up long at 11,000 anymore. Good thing they could pack out the meat!!
