Oklahoma Hog suggestions

Some friends and I want to try hog hunting. Oklahoma is the closest for us. I've been looking online and there are a lot of ranches offering hunts over feeders. Do any of you have some insight on who gives a good hunt? Or public land that would be good? None of us have ever shot hog, but it sounds like fun. Thanks.

No idea but here in TX, some ranchers even pay shooters to get rid of hogs.

May I suggest you carry a semi in say .308? :D (if it is legal where you are going to hunt of course)

I'm planning on using my LR-308 and a 20 rnd mag. I don't trust domestic hogs, much less a feral one! I'm getting a 1.5x6x40 scope sighted in tonight after work. Thank God for 60 degree + temps finally.

Ya might want to check the local hunting regs. prior to going to the field with a "20 rd mag". Don't know about Oklahoma, but some states restrict the mag capacity--just saying!

There is a dearth of public land in OK. Many of the WMAs do not allow hog hunting with centerfire rifles outside of deer season. You might want to try U Ranch. U Ranch is close to one of our farms. There are lots of wild hogs in that area.

It should be pretty easy to get the paperwork to hunt in Oklahoma. Happy hunting!

There seems to be a lot more hog's in the southern part of the state than here in the northeastern corner of the state. I have a friend in Lawton that goes hog hunting about 3-4 days a week.

Fireguy,

Your choice of the LR 308 is an excellent choice although most all good centerfire rounds will work with a shot behind the ear! 5.56/6.8SPC/308 and most. We have killed them easily with all three! But the 308 will certainly do an excellent job. Go for the behind the ear shot! Always works and fast! DRT!!!!

Just moved from OK. You need a new magazine. You won't be hunting with anything more than a 5rd magazine there. You'll need to go during off-seasons for all other seasonal game or you "must possess a filled or unfilled license appropriate for the current season".
