As availability & affordability reign supreme above most rifle cartriges. Imho it
is too small for most of the game I hunt, but the flat shooting performance of
the .223 even works great when used with a Thompson/Contender pistol! It
can be a great deer round with the right bullet @ long range...but in close you
might have the same problem I did with a 150gr .308 bullet that passed thru
a deer w/o expanding. The deer "did not know it was dead yet", & attacked
me until it was about 25 feet away was put-down by a head shot!
