leopard guns

I'm thinking about going leopard hunting but I can't decide on what caliber I want.

.308
30-06
.300 wsm
7.62x54r mosin
12 gauge sabot slug
45-70

Are the last three on the list even big enough for a leopard?

I believe you need a .300wm or larger to hunt in Africa for dangerous game but I could be wrong. And before you even go on this endeavor, you do know you cannot bring the pelt back into the United States, right?

Talk to your guide, and do what he says.

But if anything happens..... can I have your guns?

Dangerous game as a rule have to be .375 Mag or larger. 9.3x62 is the exception.

You can bring leopard back. You are probably thinking about cheetahs. I know you can bring leopards back because if you couldn't, they wouldn't be listed on taxidermy price lists.

"Furs: Most of the world’s wild cats, including tigers and such spotted species as jaguar, leopard, ocelot, margay, and leopard cat, are protected. You cannot import skins or items made from, or trimmed with, the fur of these animals. Furs from seals, polar bears, and sea otters are also prohibited."

Leopards are found in different countries. You need to make sure it is ok from the country of origion.

30/06 is good for plains game in Africa so using that as a base I'd stuff it with a good 180gn Woodleigh, Barnes projectile or go to a .338 Win Mag along the same lines in Woodleigh or Barnes.
I'd definitely be asking your guide on his recommendations though.

Honest to God, WHF would you want to shoot a leopard? "Because I can, and because I have the money" isn't a good enough reason, IMHO. Now, if you are willing to hang a steak off your back, and go armed with a .22 revolver - cool, sent us, I mean make sure your guide sends us the video.
