If you were born before December 31, 1965, you must complete the Utah Hunter Safety Course before you can obtain a hunting license. The answer to your question will be found in that course.

Here in Australia(New South Wales) a kid must be 12 years old and he/she can obtain a minor's permit but can't buy ammo or guns unless it's with a licensed adult and can only shoot/hunt in the presence of a licensed hunter.
When they turn 18 they can apply for an adult license.
This is nearly the same rules for most of Australia and I'd be interested to see what the rules are over there for kids accompanying adults on hunts and being able to hunt as well,regards

Hairbear, here in the States, each state sets their own game regulations.

In my home state, Virginia, a hunter must be at least 12 years old (unless hunting on own land, OR under direct immediate supervision of adult hunter. Between 12 and 15, you may be an Apprenctice Hunter (less direct supervision). At age 16, you can hunt on your own.

You must be at least 18 to purchase rifles and shotguns, and ammo for same.
