just wondering
do you guys carry a sidearm when hunting if so what?
|
I always did.:)
|
Upland game, no.
Anything bigger, yes. My Ruger BH or a 1911. |
If I am not hunting WITH a handgun, I usually am carrying a social purpose sidearm- one of the ones I use for daily carry. Game laws here require that rifle or shotgun be unloaded when on a road, in a vehicle, but exempts CCW permit holders, permits a loaded sidearm for self defense. Concern is not the 4 legged critters.

S&W 629 and a big-ass hunting knife.
|
I no longer hunt, but I camp and I carry a sidearm.
|
If I'm hunting with a centerfire rifle I carry a .22 revolver. ( My Ruger Mk I is just too heavy.) If I'm hunting with a rimfire, fishing pole or berry bucket, I carry a .44 mag.

Possessing more than one firearm while hunting is illegal in my state, so...ummm..ahem..nope, nothing, nada. If I were able to carry extra arms while hunting, I would lean to a revolver in .38 spcecial or larger in caliber. I can hunt with a handgun (no high powered rifles; shotgun state 'cause of low land mass and high population overall) in .357 5" inch barrel and walled cartriges minimum.
