There's about 3 or 4 of these scattered around the mountain, not sure how fresh it is though.
yes It probably is, however Elk, deer and moose do strip the bark off trees in the winter when all the grass is under snow. It could have started like that and then continued by hyped up bucks during mating season.

I wouldn't think it'd be that old, I go up and down that damn mountain all of the time, and just now noticed it. Guess I never payed attention. I really don't see many bucks or even signs of them up there, I'll see does all the damn time, but never any bucks. Last one I saw up there was in the summer, back when it's antlers were just starting to come in.
