Default Hunting season has opened.

Squirrel season opened today and it is something I look forward to every year. It signals all that is good in the world is starting. More hunting seasons opening, football, cooler weather and a myriad of other things I enjoy.

Dumpling on the way.

One of my favorite things years back in TN. I liked to use a Ruger Single Six. Loved eating them. They used to hide during their season, but the little chatter boxes were all over the place while hunting deer.
Have yourself a ball.

Nice hunt. I like my squirrel deep fried and smothered in gravy. Probably a heart attack waiting to happen. I can chance it for a good meal.

The shotgun is the way to bag some squirrels in a hurry. When you find one squirrel there are probably more. It is a lot easier to shoot a fast moving squirrel with a shotgun. Generally you can kill a lot more squirrels with a partner. The squirrel can't hide on both sides of the tree.

JD. Damn that sounds good. Never did that. Used butter and some oil with onions and maybe some left over vino.
I was not real successful with the fast movers, only lucky a few times. But if they stood still for the photo just for a bit they were mine. It was just a great time in the woods. Lots of good memories.
Can't do it here. I'd end up with an armored humvee and a swat team.

Squirrel hunting is a good way to hone your rifle skills for deer season. As good quality .22 a warm fall day and a stand of oaks and your ready for action.

Here in GA Squirrel seasons runs right through Deer season. Went out Saturday morning myself with a buddy. Was not expecting to get anything but we did not even see a Squirrel. Heard a few though.A guy at the hunting club I recently joined says we cannot hunt Squirrel during Deer season. Did not see any mention of this in the bylaws. Waiting to here from the president of the club to find out for sure. If that is the case I'll be pissed as I was not planning on doing any deer hunting this year. Granted everyone else there, but my buddy and I, are after Deer then Turkey in the spring. Either way, the way I understand it if while out Deer hunting you can shoot Squirrel as long as the weapon of choice is legal for both. But why shoot at a Squirrel and scare the Deer off. Got the AR ready though just in case.
