Hunting with 91/30

has anyone done this. I just got mine and im thinking of takeing some softpoint ammo and going hog hunting in southern ohio. I think that it would be alot of fun to do and pretty cool to. Thanks Anthony

Long, slow to swing, slow to reload, would use from a stand, not ground (hogs hunt you back) but will defitely plant a hog. 30-06 power range.

Ya i thought of that maybe i should use my m44. just think that it would be cool to take an animal with a rifle that is 60 plus years old. the power of the rifle never worried me i think i could use it for elk if i really wanted to. Thanks Anthony

I took a hog with my No.1 MkIII SMLE, so yeah, the Moisin should work great!

I used deer hunt with my M44, which is effectively the same thing. Check your local laws on hunting with military rounds or firearms first. I'd hate for the game officer to be the one to inform you as he leaves with your rifle.

I hunted with my M91/30 before it broke. Deer just fall right over without much fuss. S&B makes a really great soft-point hunting round in 7.62x54r, pretty accurate.

I just think it would be alot of fun to hunt with one although the m44 would prob be better that way if i happend to just wond one i could always finish him off with the bayonet lol.

Lol. IDK how they run things in Ohio, but here in Florida, if you have a boynet on your weapon and get caught, bye bye weapon and hello serious penalties. You cant even take them to the range with the bayonet. But, you CAN take a big ol' bowie knife hunting with you:rolleyes::eek:
