How about a .357 RIFLE for deer?
Just for variety I would like to take a deer with my .357 Handi Rifle. In the picture the .357 barrel is the unmounted one. The mounted barrel with the scope is a .50 cal muzzleloader. I have killed two deer with it. I also have a .30-06 Handi Rifle. (Second picture) I have killed nine deer with it.
My question is would the .357 rifle be adequate to take a deer at 75 yards? http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a.../100_0085r.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/P1010027.jpg |
.357 Mag from a rifle at 75 yards...absolutely will knock down a deer.

Yep. Go get em.

I have a henry big boy in .357 that ate a deer just fine.

Defiantly will handle a deer. I would buy high velocity hollow point ammo though if you're planning on 75 yard shots

I got one of them, sure why not I do.................

Buddy took a 225# dressed 12 pt with his Marlin .357 last yr (hot handload with 180 gr bullets).
It's his 12th deer, in 12 shots. He doesn't shoot movers, stays under 100 yards (last yr it was 85 yards and farthest shot to date, but said he wouldn't go past 100 no matter what). Low recoil (he shoots well anyway) he waits for a good neck shot and puts it right on the money (where neck/body meet, spines 'em). Not saying he is right or wrong, but hard to argue with that kind of success :) FWIW (and probably not much) I have taken 1 deer with a .357, handgun. I too spined my deer looking away from me (52 yards). Pinpoint placement. I like .44 mags better. Will be using a .35 cal this yr in rifle though..........,35 Rem. |
