How fast can you climb a tree ?

Take the 308 & you might not have to find out.

.223 kills pigs with ease. I use a few different types of ammo.
50gr JHP
55gr Vmax
50gr AE v-tips
55gr PPU soft points

I've never lost one. Maybe they just accidentally die. I don't know, I'm not a rocket surgeon.

I'm glad I've never had to climb a tree to avoid being mauled by one of my index cards I may have just barely hit.

556 works well with the proper round. 308 works awesome with any round.

the REAL issue is how much weight you want to carry on the hunt and what brush level?? in south texas i used my bcm carbine year before last. last year i switched to my scar17 it did a wunder job on the hoggies. there i face thick cactus and mesquite but we use 4wheelers for most of the major movement.

Penetration is where it's at. Heavier bullet, better penetration. Go with the .308.

Either works great with the right ammo. Pick something you can move quickly to get on target with and something you can move away from your target quickly with. Think light and comfortable.

Where are you hunting these pigs?, sorry if I missed it. I'd opt for a .308. 200lb is not a small pig. From my limited boar experience, (We only have escaped European Boar and ansestors from a game preserve) They are tough. When they start running, all hell breaks loose. When I hunt on the ground I wear Kevlar chapped pants and 12" high boots, that is all the time. I also use a 9.3x57 w/ 286gr w/ open sights. If you are hunting Tx, I'm sure a .308 will be up to the task on flat land. I understand there are draws they can travel, but it is pretty flat. I have 150 Barnes TSX that are for pigs down south in .308 when I get there.

The odds of encountering feral swine in TX that .223/5.56 will not handle is about the same as taking a new Boone & Crocket whitetail record Buck while you're there.
