Default Guiding in the Yukon

Came across this and thought some of you might enjoy the scenery and trophies:

I could not guide or partner someone that cannot shoot. Hunters that do not take the time to learn to shoot before they pull the trigger on an animal just frankly disgust me.

Scenery and sheep/moose is pretty darn spectacular, though.

I was surprised to hear from several guides that they get requests from clients (To be clients) to shoot game for them. They don't even own a gun. They just want a trophy to brag about. All the guides I know out right refuse to do so.

Honestly, I think if I guided some of those dufus hunters, I'd insist that I do all the shooting....they could maybe put a slug into it after it was dead just so they could say they shot it. Sloppy shooting at animals really bugs me.

I've always wondered how they haul out the meat with one of those giant moose. You'd have to be looking at 650 lb. minimum for the quarters to haul back to camp. Then there's the warmish weather so the meat's got to be flown out?

I found out the hard way. Was appx. 8 miles from the trail head on horse back. By myself. It took me over 48 hours to pack out a big Alaskan moose. After that lesson I ALWAYS shot my moose from my back porch. All kills where within 50 yards of the house.
When I am asked where is the best place to shoot a moose. I would tell them shot placement is the most important thing . Right in the back yard.
