I am letting my friend use my 30-30 for whitetail hunting this year,but I have never hunted with it yet,so I don't know what ammo is best.We hunt in thick brush with 75-yards max range.Are the blue box Federal softpoints any good?I plan on buying those cause they are only 11 bucks at walmart,or is there something better?

The 150 is fine. That said, I use the Remington 170 SP when I use the 30-30. The Hornady LeverEvolution ammo only gets rave reviews, but it's higher priced, harder to find, and I've never used it.

Hornady Lever-Evolution works great in both of my Marlin 336's. That is my main ammo in them, but if max range is 75 yds for you then I'm sure the cheaper stuff will work just as good for ya.

My main concern with the Leverevolution is that the bullet might deflect off the brush and twigs and not cut through like the flatpoints,but I don't know if such a soft point could possibly cause a deflect or not.I have also noticed that Federal,Hornady,Winchester and Remington all make a 150grn@2,390fps load,is this the standard load?I think I would be better off buying 2 boxes of Federal for the same price as one of the Leverevolution and have 30 pre season practice rounds rather than 10 of the expensive stuff.And I don't think at 30 yards,which is my usual kill range,the deer will know the difference between an expensice bullet and a cheap one.

I would suggest Federal 170gr. soft points. It will cut through the brush better and it doesn't cost much more than the 150gr. Power Point stuff.

Here in my state hunting season is over, so now is the time to stock up on hunting ammo. Georgia Arms has some "Precision Plus" ammunition that's worth checking out.

I found some serbian made 30-30 ammo that shoots in excess of 2,500 ft lbs muzzle energy,that's alot more than the 1,900 average.I think that I will stay clear of it considering my gun is 65 years old.

I have always favored the tried&true Remington 170 grain Thutty-thutty in my Marlin 336, but began trying some SP spitzers in my little Savage M340 bolt-action.
This past season, I tried handloading the Hornady 160 grain FTX - same bullet as the Leverevolution - worked great in the 336! Excellent accuracy (though my distance never exceeds 80 yards here) and good 'smack down'.
Sixpointer in the freezer - no complaints.

Federal Hi-Shock, Remington Core-Lokt or Win's version in either 150 or 170 Gr. all work just fine in any 94 or 336 I've ever seen. Either is more than enough for any deer or most any other big game inside 150 yards.
