One of the biggest toms I've ever seen, dead or alive. Guy told me that he mounted a large one last year, but this one was a little bigger. No full mount for this one tho, he said costs too much and he's gonna self mount the beard, hooks and fan. Gotta be the biggest spurs I've seen, they were curved and a sharp point. Dude got him a killer.
Good to hear the kid got a good one! 9" beard is no slouch! That's possibly a lifetime gobbler!
I love turkey hunting! In my book, the best and most challenging overall of any hunting...unless you are hunting the hunter...

Way to go! That is a dandy Tom, hard to beat a turkey hunt when it all comes together like that! Any of us that get the opportunity to hunt turkeys are very fortunate as it is a great hunt. Enjoy your bird. __________________ GUNS & GUZZIS |

Season ends here tomorrow, my dad and I are planning to spend the day in the woods and hopefully bring one home. __________________ If the pain is lacking so is the discipline...

Went out this morning to a spot I knew birds were roosting. I got out before they were out of roost, and the gobblers were earning their name. I set up with a single hen.
Out of roost, they went the other way. I could hear them just gobbling away from me. I kept calling and I saw a lone bird headded to my decoy. Hen. She walked up to my decoy cutting the whole time and put her beak right to my decoy's beak. Then she turned toward me and started walking my way. By now, she was yelping and I head the toms getting closer to me. She walked right by me to my left within 15' of me. Gobblers getting closer. She walked behind my tree and circled back toward my decoy. Gobblers still coming in, at least 3 of them. She walked past me on my right within 10' and right next to my decoy. She was cutting and purring and yelping. Each time the gobblers would go off. She stayed with me for the better part of 1/2 hr doing my calling for me. The gobblers came in just out of range and gobbled for 10 minutes. After some time, the hen lost interest and wandered off. The toms shut down and were gone. Eventually, my heart rate returned to normal.
While I did not bag a bird, I consider that a successful hunt in my book.
There is one more week of hunting here, but I have to be out of town next week. Maybe I can get back on saturday and get out for the last day next sunday.
Good hunting to all!

Now you gone and got me all amped-up. That video was incredible. Made Knight and Hale look like a couple of boy scouts.
I still have to wait seven weeks and four days until I'm sitting in the turkeys wood with the sun coming up and those strutter's just a hammering. __________________ God, Family, Guns, in that order. |

What a great video! Ol' Tom's buddy seemed a little pissed when his pal exploded.
Can you imagine? That little bird brain had to be firing on all four cylinders, lol.
