Any good hunting here?

Interesting question. While I was stationed there I saw lots of deer. Lots of varmint tracks everywhere. Probably some bear there as well. Is it still a military compound? Is it open for hunting?

The fort holds most of the game along the central coast because it occupies the reverse northern slopes of the coastal mountains. That's where the deer go to stay cool from the summer heat of central California.

But you need to pay their annual $100 fee, and you need to get into line every Saturday morning and go thru their sign-in procedure. It is all a big pain in the wahzoo.

But there are lots of deer, pigs, and turkeys there to hunt.

If you want to go through all the hoops, it's a great place to hunt. You need to check ahead of time to see what ranges will be open on the days you want to go, as some may be closed for training. I believe they still have guided hunts also. I have hunted pig many times there. There is a variety of different habitat on the various training ranges. They have a website for info on hunting.

Some of my most memorable hunting experiences were on Ft. Hunter Liggett.
