First kill

I have been teaching my niece to shoot over the last couple years. She expressed interest in hunting so her and my wife went together and got there course and licenses this summer/fall. Well today we decided to go into the woods. Niece shot her first squirrel and 2 chipmunks. She used her grandmas first rifle (my moms), A marlin youth model .22. I found the shed antler about 5 feet from where her squirrel fell out of the tree. What a great first hunt.

Tell your niece I said Waidmannsheil. I am starting to see more young ladies hunting over here. You have to be 18 to hunt though.

Congratulate your niece for me!

Congratulations to you too JJ, you're passing on the legacy & grooming hunting partners for the years ahead!

In most states here in the Midwest, 10 & 11 year olds have to be with a
mentor. Basically that means one gun between the two of you and the
mentor has to be within arms reach when the child has the firearm.

12-15 years old they can have their own firearm and have to be in visual
and hearing distance. So if you can yell to them and see them that is good.
At 16 they can hunt by themselves.

My 11 year old got his first whitetail this year.

Both my boys will be hunting WI this year, between us we will have 6 tags;
3 buck and 3 antlerless if they shoot all six deer that is fine with me. In
Wisconsin you can "group hunt" meaning you can tag a deer shot by
someone else effectively pooling tags. Some states do not allow that.

Congrats to the young lady. Congrats jjfuller1 for taking the time to mentor the young lady in the sport of hunting.

Great job! A memory she will always cherish.

Thanks. Made her mom and my wife and my sister tear up just a little. My sister taught me to hunt and here I am teaching a newbie. My wife just thought it cute. And the whole moms gun thing I think is what did it for my other sister. Lol. Can't wait to get Her more practice and a deer in a few years.
