Reckon your mates might get a bit pissed off about that idea?

What's the biggest calibre you've shot before because I can tell you that benching a 30/06 while sighting in can prove to be a rather daunting experience to somebody who's never shot something that big and you'll end up with a bad flinch.

I would suggest you getting hold of somebody with some of these bigger calibres and trying them before you buy it's cheaper and less painful that way if you find out that a particular calibre has a bit too much kick for you.

If you are a younger person I would get a 30/06. There isn't a situation that you can't buy ammo off the shelf for a 30/06 to handle anything you are likely to encounter in North America. Teddy Roosevelt took virtually every big game animal in North America with a 30/06. A Howa 1500 would make an excellent first rifle for anyone. If you can afford it I would get a Weatherby Vanguard with a walnut stock. We know wood stocks will last a lifetime.

or you are referring to the black bears down there that get about 3 feet tall?

I've actually never hunted bear but yes, down here it would be the smaller black bears and my single shot with a .44 mag back up would enough gun for me.

Heck, I'd hunt Griz with this set up as well because, if I ever do get to hunt Griz, it will be a guided trip and I'm sure the guide will have a Marlin .45/70 backing me up.

Tack
