Depends on what I am hunting. I like them all. My go to rifle is a Savage Weather Warrior with accu-trigger in .308 Win using 150 Grain Win PP.

Bear over bait would be a Ruger hawkeye .338 Federal w/Bushnell 3X9X40 Elite 3200 with firefly uing Fed Fusion 200 grainers, OR possibly a Marlin mdl 1895 in 45-70 with 405 grain buffalo Bore factory loads.

Dan

Fifty years of use was my Ruger in 308 shooting a Remington 180 grain Roundnose Cor-Loct bullet. In 60 deer not one ever ran more than 50 feet before dropping. Great caliber from 50 feet to 376 yards, which was my longest harvest. Most sniper rifle and m-14's were 308 caliber. Plenty of power for everything from deer to larger animals.

Default favorite rifle

Pray I never have to limit myself to just one. I love them all, but I normally reach for the Savage weather warrior in .308, although it is not exactly a vintage rifle, or a collector type gun. Dan

I'd say the Springfield M1A. What a great rife. It has historical significance, it'll put food on the table, and it's a great personal defense weapon. Now if I could just afford one.

My favorite rifle would be the M-1 Garand, lots of power. I don't own one but i will someday. My SKS would be the favorite one of the ones that I own.

FOR SURE THESE ALL SOUND FREAKIN' AWESOME, ESPECIALLY THE RUGER HAWKEYE I HAD FORGOTTEN TO MENTION THAT ONE. I WOULD CHOOSE IT OVER THE 45-70 SIMPLY BECAUSE IT IS MORE VERSATILE THAN THE 45-70. STILL ALL THREE OF THOSE ARE AWESOME RIFLES. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY COMPLAINTS OR PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER OR SHAPE OF THE .308 SUCH AS UNDER-PENETRATION OR EASY FRAGMENTATION ETC. OVERALL THOUGH THE .338(FOR BIG DANGEROUS GAME(NORTH AMERICA)) IS THE GREATEST OF THE THREE. BTW i wouldnt suggest to anyone out there to shoot anything smaller than a squirrel with any one of these rounds.

1951 FR-8 Spanish Military Mauser - short and stylish like an M1 Carbine, powerful due to the .308 chambering, and accurate and quick to acquire a target due to the peep sights.

This must be a trick question. I don't think I can narrow this down. I will say my Marlin .22LR is dead on within 75 yds. She's a good ol' gun.
