Nope. Velocity generates heat but you won't burn a barrel with a bolt-action. At the range I routinely fire 40-50 rounds.

I've got a few.
Browning A-bolt Gold Medallion .22WMR. I always seen to grab 40gr CCI maxi mags. They are just proven on Coyotes. I might have to try 30gr gamepoints as I have a few boxes. Just a simple old Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40mm w/ amberglow optics. VG for low light.
CZ527 Varminter .223. Use mainly handloads from 52grHP to 65gr SP. Hornady 55gr SP work. Scope is a Sightron SII big sky 6.5-20x42MMAO.

Husqvarna 1600 6.5x55. All handloads. 87grHP and 100grSP. Scope is a very simple 4x32mm. Great for dense NH woods.

I also have a Marlin 917V for my boys. Wears an older Bushnell Trophy 4-16x42mmAO. This is not a coyote gun. It does however do a great job on woodchucks.

I have used a 7mm Rem mag as the yote was just a target of opportunity when leaving the woods on a slow whitetail hunt.

I have some 160gr for my .44-40 1892 that I loaded up just for coyotes in the woods. 8gr of unique will make for a great vermin round out to 100 yards.

223 for sure. Hornady Vmax. Or federal American eagle varmint tipped.

My buddy I hunt with religiously uses a bolt action .243 and it works great, I use my AR 5.56 with hornady varmint rounds, reloads on both rifles of course that I make, but we do really well and not too much damage to the skins. I have however used a 7 mag but only for about 400 yard shots and without too much damage at that range, but less then that and it will devistate the skins. I went with a buddy using a 17 hmr and he didn't do so well, the pack got in really close to us but thank god I had my AR and 30 round mags so I started picking them off quickly.

I would have to say that my favorite "round" for coyotes is the rounded edge of my trucks front bumper., but......

Remington makes a sabot round for the .30-06 called the accelerator. 60 grain BT HP .223 saboted into a .30-06 case. I used to use my .270 with 110 grain target loads before I sold my .270. Both were highly effective out to 300 yards.

My personal preference isn't even a bullet (or a truck part!). I prefer to use my Parker Buck Hunter compound bow, set at 55#, with Carbon Express Terminator carbon fiber arrows, cut to 27.5 inches with a 60\70 spine. Tipped with, 100 grain G2 ripper tri-blade broadheads. Properly placed, this set up is fatal out to 60 yards, and is quiet enough to not spook any other 'yotes out of coming into range.

For coyotes I have used 22lr-7mm rem mag.
For coyotes/varmints I have three different rifle cartridges I use which are 223(5.56) in two Colt Ar15s,22-250Rem in a Rem 700bdl vssf, also 6mm rem in a rem 700bdl. 6mm rem is comparable to the 243 win.

All three do a excellent job thinning down the pack.
