if you are on a good field, it can be lots of action and fun. I don't hunt much any more but I will take a good dove shoot now and again. fun fun! good recipes too...bacon wrapped seasone dove breast on a grill!

Default Dove

Many years ago,
went every year.
Blythe and Los Banos.
Always used a Skeet gun
12 or 20
One friend always drove out in a motorhome
his Wife would cook up some Dove for the group,
Oh My, She had a magic touch

Cant do it anymore,
But Boy,
The Memories

For those that have been here awhile, and have heard me tell this one before- your pardon, please.

For one opening day, and one time only, I had a special day. Opening day was a social event- we had a local farmer that timed cutting his crops to opening day, and let a bunch of us hunt there. Brothers, fathers and sons, introducing your kids to old friends- and their kids. All birds that day went back to the clubhouse for a cookout that evening.

For that one perfect day in September, hunting in the same field, was my Grandad, Dad, self, Son and Grandson. 5 generations, everyone got at least one bird. Remember Grandson meeting HIS grandpa's grandpa- and being delighted they both had the same middle name.

Yes, the good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I will be out there this year with a Fox Sterlingworth.

It's more than the birds.

Haven't been since I took my son on first dove hunt. I like to hunt doves but fields anywhere within a hundred miles are leased to groups from Nashville, Huntsville Birmingham and elsewhere.
I was offered to buy in at 200.00 several years ago.
Many fields are just growing grass and cows now, or use to be favorite haunt, tomatoes.
I think that was the last time the 870 was fired too about 86.
Squirrel season opened yesterday but I'm waiting until frost.
I don't like fooling with wolves, in them.
I suppose I will save pennies and start trying to locate some fields in spring for next year.
In Arkansas I hear they have some good dove hunting.
