Wait a sec. Do you have proof of bigger gators? I would love to see a picture.

The story I saw was from last weekend and involved people catching one at about 720 pounds only to have their new record broken a few hours later when a similar gator was caught.

I don't think these are the biggest gators ever seen in MS, I think these are records for gator caught as part of a hunt during a legal season. The rules on gator season are complicated and seem to be geared toward greater safety at the expense of participation numbers, IMO.

They got an eleven footer last year at the lake in my sister's neighborhood; it was killed as a nuisance, not as part of the season.

It is a mississipi record but like therewolf when you spent enough years in floridas wilds and lakes you see lots of monster gators. Just not easy to get them during the short public hunting seasons.

Story on a 14-3 1/2" 1043 lber from florida.
http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2010-11-01/news/os-large-alligator-caught-20101101_1_arnold-brunell-giant-gator-large-gator

Note the last line on the page . In 1956 a 17.5" was caught.

There are some other real monsters out there.

An other than are not caught maybe larger that. Wootens airbot rides and gator farm had big gator that desided to call there place home and died of old age they guess . Never weight but was 16 feet 3"long . That was 25 years ago.

"The Florida record for weight is a 1,043-pound alligator from Orange Lake in Alachua County." OK, Lake Placid anybody?

Biggest crocodile in Australia that I've heard of was 1 called "Cassius" that is around 17' 11" long and is around 110 yrs old estimated and has been in captivity for at least 26 yrs.
He was originally caught in a billabong in the Northern Territory of Australia after he attacked boats and bit the motors off some of them.

Actually he's the world's largest croc in captivity at this time.
