I took my doe at 375 yards with a 308 last season.

check out your LGS. come hunting season, they will know pretty much most are using and killing deer with in your area. they should also know what's legal to use in your area, as they should have the current game regulations book on hand. check out this also. some states have different regulations. some states you have to use above a .23 caliber centerfire, so that means centerfire 22's are not legal. Texas just recently made it legal to use suppressors for hunting. some states only allow shotguns with slugs or buckshot. so check out your states game regulations and then start planning what firearm you want to get. lots of people also like large caliber handguns for deer hunting as well.

22 rimfire or 22 centerfire? irregardless, if the round or caliber isn't legal, then it's called poaching. highly illegal and very unethical!

IMO, using something not legal to use for hunting is poaching, not hunting.

no doubt lots of deer are taken illegally with rimfire 22's. that's poaching and not hunting IMO.
now legally hunting, i would guess either the 30-30 or the 30-06!
