You'll need to check your states laws.

If it's legal where you live.
But you'd be lucky if you could get one to come within the shooting range of a crossbow.
Where we hunt yote's at,a 100-150yd shot is a close one, most are 200-300 yard shots, and they are haulin ass most of the time.
Coyote's are very smart, and can see/hear/smell you a long ways off.

in Idaho the coyote is listed as unprotected, you can use dynamite. trip wires = kaboom

A freind of mine was calling coyotes with a wounded rabbit call, and he saw one cautiously making his way toward him, thismwas in AZ, lots of rolling ground. Anyway, he steadied his rifle determined to hit that yote, next time he poped up, well as he tells it, the yote popped up, at the instant he fired, a mountain lion jumped him from behind. It bit his left arm and while they were rolling around, he was able to shoot it in the belly with his .357. He has both a stuffed coyote and stuffed mountain lion from the same trip.

The moral of the story is dont Varmit hunt alone, many animules like to eat wounded rabbits, :-)

Better yet, don't alone if you can avoid it. Things happen so fast in the woods. I have hunted many times alone. I have been in some scary situations. Share the adventure!!
