[QUOTE=nosaj;1461862]I'm in northern wv and the coyote have started roaming through the yards in my residential area. There's a bunch of stray cats at the end of my road that I'm sure are drawing them in.

I have better luck calling the Yote's in with "cat yowls" than I do with most anything.Kitties are a preferred food item around here.
I also have a neighbor who was sitting on his deck in broad daylight while his ****zu was taking a pee, a yote came over the 4' fence ,grabbed his dog, and was gone before the guy could get out of his chair.
I shoot them on sight and actively hunt them when time allows.

IMO, he was being a bit of a dork making chirpy, squeak noises and then being surprised when the coyote was attracted. Still, it's odd behaviour alright.

Yes, it is unfortunate that this has happened in so many places. Here in AZ they have been coming into the cities and burbs more and more due to all the building, and other projects goin on out in the desert. My Weim and my Brit have both been chased down by coyotes several times while
out quail hunting. Fortunately, no blood drawn...but with encroaching civilization into the boonies, this will continue. The yotes are getting hungry.

We get them in the neighborhood frequently. There are a couple of yappers I wish they would eat. The bunnies have disappeared for the winter so not too many sightings right now. They are getting bolder since no one shoots them in town. A bow or crossbow would be ideal. Even a sling bow. I worry more about uncontrolled dogs. Two pits got loose and chased a neighbor into his garage. I carry a walking stick and my pistol when out walking. Came close to using the stick a couple times. We have seen quite a few coyotes when we a paddling our kayaks and out in the jeep. There have been a couple of people that claim to have seen wolves in wild area above the city. I am not ready to believe that yet. Some of the coyotes get pretty big.

The coyote population is like most other animals. The populations out grow their range. Mother nature creates a balance. In the case of coyotes it is Canine Distemper it kills them by the thousands. In areas of the country where coyotes are a new species you are not familiar with their life cycles. There will be years when they just all but disappear. Trappers in the Rocky Mtns. are seeing a very declining population as disease and wolves kill off coyotes.

A coyote marked my pickup by pooping on top the cab. i put some old meat in the truck bed along with three leghold traps. At about two in the morning our house dog went nuts and i got my crossbow to kill the coyote. My busy body neighbor was leaving for work when she saw me dispatch the coyote with a blunt. She raised holy hades and threatened to call the sheriff and various others.

There is a sugar substitute called Xylitol that is deadly to canines.

Maybe put up a "For Sale by Neighbour" sign in front of their place?

Yep, coyotes like to eat house cats. However, they are much more careful around bobcats. Earlier this year we caught a couple turkeys in a hog trap. First two coyotes came in. Then the bobcat came in:

When we checked the trap the next morning there were turkey feathers all over the place.

I live less than 1/4 mile from the river bottom (no water) in so cal and we get coyotes in the neighborhood occasionally. Our neighbor "had" a persian cat "fancy feast looking white fur ball" that got out one night and never returned. Out of the 80 homes in my area, i have never seen a cat around here. Kinda glad actually.
