Default Caught This Boar Hog Sunday Night

In the past year a friend and myself have caught about 200 wild hogs. We field dress those hogs and give them to folks who need the meat. Trapping has slowed down because most of the hogs are on the wheat fields.

Most of the hogs we catch are fat. This one was an exception, he was skinny as a snake.

The trap is baited with shelled corn sprinkled with strawberry jello. The feeder also contains shelled corn.

Nice! I was thinking about a trip to the pan handle to blast on prairie dogs that plague the wheat fields there.

Shooting them is my preferred method. Unfortunately, all the hogs around there are nocturnal and i don't feel like sitting in cold all night. When the weather warms up i will shoot some trap shy hogs.

Nice photo, thanks for sharing. I've never hog hunted. Are they as ornery as they look?

Usually not. But a wounded boar hog can easily kill a hunter.

One morning i approached a trap that contained a sow on foot. The sow was in heat and was being "guarded" by a 250 pound boar. The boar came out of the bushes after me. i grabbed my .380 carry gun, fired at the boar and missed. But he did run off.

The pigs here in Australia sport some very impressive ivory at times but the pigs that cause the most damage are the pigs with the smaller hooks as these are sharp as razors and can open a dog up like a can of sardines or rip your leg open with a very nasty wound that will need either stitching or surgery.
This is a pic of 1 pig I shot up in our Northern Territory 2 years ago on a cull hunt. The case next to it is a 30/06AI with a 165gn Sierra GameKing.

The other pig shown with the Coke can in it's mouth was shot by another bloke who was hunting with me and it shows that even though a lot of our pigs don't hit the weights you boys get there ours do support some good ivory and the biggest set of hooks from the pigs I shot went around 25" from a 170 lb boar, regards
