Default Carrying side arm under 21

This deer season me and a buddy are heading up north to try our luck. We will be using our Own rifles that we both personally own. However being that we are both under 21 neither of us have pistols to carry as sidearms, not that it is a huge deal but I would like to have one in case it's needed. Can i legally bring and carry one of my dads handguns? Unfortunately I live in california and I prefer to follow every rule and regulation, whether I agree with it or not. Any information will help and thanks in advance!

my suggestion would be to find out what the state laws are in your state regarding a pistol under the age of 21 and follow them to the letter.

getting caught on a firearms violation would probably be a good way of losing all your firearms privilages.

Correct advise!! I just hate the word "privilege" when it comes to guns!! Earned vs Rights-

Here in arizona you can carry a pistol at 18 as long as you open carry and its in plain sight im not sure about california they are pretty tough on gun laws so i wouldnt do it. ust take a big ass knife with you since your hunting youll need it anyways to field dress your animal.

Call your Fish and Wildlife/Dept. of Natural Resources whatever they call it in your state. Your local or state P. D. probably won't know for sure but they will.

You'd be making a huge mistake. Not only are you risking your future rights, you could possibly be endangering you father's as well. You'll have your hunting rifles, and those should give you all the protection you need. good luck

Check with Fish and Game. A hunting license offers a lot of protection if you are hunting. Ask if you need to have a supervising adult over 21 with you. Cops hardly know traffic law. They certainly won't know hunting law. If you run into someone in the woods they will be from fish and game.

I was just looking through my Colorado big game brochure put out by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Again I am talking about Colorado. Colorado allows youths 16 and older to hunt without and adult. It does not distinguish rifle from pistol in the booklet. People often don't realize that hunting offers opportunities for youth that would not otherwise be legal.

Just because you cant do something in town doesn't mean you cant do it in the woods.

Again check with your local fish and game office.
