It weighs 5–12 kg (11–27 lb), and has a body length of 60-90 cm (24-35 in). Distinguished by its brown ears. Each hair of the back consists of four distinct colors; white at the root, then black, above which foxy-red, and the point black.

Habitat consists of Israel, Syria, and Jordan and they are not endangered.

The good Mrs. help there at all, Jack? Nice. Most excellent job.

Nope, she was at work. I happen to know that there are Jackals throughout all of Africa and up through the Middle East.

I watch a lot of National Geographic, Animal Planet and Nature on PBS. I have somewhat of a self educated wildlife background and interest and I am lucky enough to be married to a sexy wildlife biologist, as you know. It helps to know how to research and use Google too.

I never knew there were jackals in the Middle East, but it does make sense.

For all you who have never travelled outside of the Northern Hemisphere, the Jackal and the Coyote are so similar you would swear they are the same animal. Having seen black backed jackals in South Africa, I immediately thought they were coyotes or what we call coy-dogs (Coyote-dog crosses).
