Good luck with your puchase sir. The guys at SEI will build you an excellent rifle. I'd love to hear all the details about the rifle you are having them build for you, but I dont wanna hijak this thread.

Feel free to pm me with the details.

I use a S&W 629-6. One-shot kill every time.

Maybe a trifle late, but the most experienced boar hunters I know use either a Smith & Wesson Model 629 in .44 Magnum, or a 12 ga. with slugs.

The handgunner, incidentally, has taken boar in every state where they are found, even has the head of a boar engraved on the side of the Smith's frame. He uses a hard cast 220 gr. flat nosed SWC ahead of a hefty charge of #2400.

My brother had relatives in East Tennessee who had wild boar and black eyed peas every New Year's day. The 12 ga. was their choice.

Never hunted the things myself, but heard many hunters also swear by the Winchester or Marlin lever action in .30-30, used for black bear, too.

I did talk once with a would-be boar hunter. He told me of using a Colt Python with .357 Magnum Remington 125gr. Semi-Jacketed Hollow points. He took nine shots, none of which penetrated the belt of fat more than an inch or so. The boar was killed with a Martlin .45-70.

I live in Alabama, the smaller feral pigs that we enjoy taking here fall like bowling pis in front of the .223. I use this - DPMS LO Pro:

No problem out to 200. I haven't had a shot opportunity beyond that range yet. Hogs are closed right now due to spring turkey.

Back in the late 1980's I took a 150 lb. boar with a Ruger Mini 14 in .223. I made sure I had a .45 auto on my hip though, just in case I pissed the hog off and missed him with my subsequent shots. It always pays to be armed for such an emergency!!!
