Default boar hunting what gun

SO I will be going boar hunting in Mississippi, is .223 enough gun? I am taking a .308 for the far shots, but would like to take my .223 for the closer shots. I figure the .223 for under 100yds and .308 for anything past.

I'd just stick with the .308. I know our hogs around here carry a lot of European boar blood still. Because of this, they can be really dangerous if clipped.

okay man let me straighten this out for u the 308 is the best all around rifle made so there for it would be great but if u insist on takin another gun with u the 30 30 is the way to go put the 223 up and tell it that it will never go on a hog trip not enough power for a big ole boar and yea they are mean i hunt with 14 dogs and trap and stand hunt them i have seen them rip a dog to shreds and tear a trap to hell

Try a 45-70 it'll bring 'em down everytime. My way of thinking is if your hunting dangerous game use a gun that plays more into your favor (don't take a chance on getting yourself hurt, and put the animal down as fast as possible)

This is a great place to answer all of your hog questions.

TEXASBOARS.COM :: Index

I always use a 7mm rem mag. I have shot two hogs with a .223 and they both ran off. Maybe it was my shot placement, or maybe it just wasnt enough gun to knock them down, but the 7 always knocks them right over.

Default Handguns

Handguns, went once and used T/C Encore pistol in .308 cal. Easy to carry when chasing the dogs through the hills of Tennessee and knocked the hog on his 300 lb. butt.
