I bought one many years ago - 5' aluminum tube with camo tape and rubber mouthpiece. It shoots .40 cal beaded spring steel darts. At one point I could hit a soda can at 100'. I pegged a squirrel to a tree through his hind leg. I felt like crap for several days because he was stuck there, helpless, 40' up the tree. At a gun show I found plastic broadhead tips and hollow plastic conical bases to replace the beads. Some fool back in the mid-90's was shooting pedestrians on the sidewalks of NYC. I would imagine getting hit in the temple or the eye with a 4" spring steel dart could have dire consequences.

I use a .40 cal, store bought, 42" length, and made of aluminum.
My ammo is: Sharp wire darts, spear point darts, stun darts, and spike darts.
I use the sharp wire darts for target practice. My target is a cardboard box filled with plastic shopping bags. I tape a 50 yard small bore rifle target to one side. I can put a dozen darts in a 2" circle from 20' without trying. Once I put a dart directly on the top of another dart!
My stun darts are all plastic. I use them to train the cats and dogs where not to go in the house. My dogs quickly learned to stay away from the garbage and there have been no cats on my counters since I started this method.
