Sat. (12-29) sitting on my powerline stand where we almost always see deer at 4pm I had 4 raccoons cross the powerline about 60 yards away, got a shot of them with my camera. One hour later I was watching two doe about 350 yards away when I caught movement closer which turned out to be two coyotes trotting across the powerline. One stopped for a moment about 70 yards out and I put him permanently to sleep; survivability of the 2013 fawn population just went up. The two doe down the end of the powerline that I had been glassing just continued to graze and will be available for the next hunt but I will definately want to get closer then 350 yards.

How do you have a 350 yard shot in GA? Are you hunting off farmland?

Yes, hunting off farmland that has a power line easement running across the property. We keep the power line trimmed and placed several stands at the edge of the woods/easement. On one straight stretch of the power line I can see more then 700 yards. This distance is based on the average spacing of the utility poles, 130 yards, not an actual measured distance as my laser is only good for 450 yards under ideal conditions. The two deer I was watching were two 130 yard spaced poles and one additional pole that was less, about 100 yards as the power line changed direction there. 130 + 130 + 100 = 360 but I rounded it to 350.
BTW, when I hear people talk about wanting to shoot deer at 500 + yards I wonder if they really know what 500 yards is. I am an X high power competitive rifle shooter, master classification, where we routinely shot 200, 300 and 500 or 600 yards and where available 1,000 yards; this was done typically with fixed / iron sights. I think in many cases people who claim to have shot deer at 500 yards would be shocked to see what 500 yards really looks like.

I know that 200 is one hell of a lot further than 100. The property we hunt is logging property and we have a 600 yd cut. It's an estimate, but I can tell you that it'll be at least a few times to the range before I'm confident shooting beyond 200. I'd take a shot at 200, simply because I have confidence in physics, but after that you DO have to consider other factors.

We have had great luck hunting rabbits all season. We have a small pack of beagles that make it twice as fun.

I've been within 6 foot of a wild rabbit this season. I was at the hunting lodge (seen below lol) and was headed to the latrine and heard a rustle in the brush. And there he was! He crept a few feet before finally working up the courage to run away.

Al the hogs here are nocturnal. After trapping over 60 hogs in the same trap since September, the hogs at one place are trap shy. Got to move that trap a hundred yards and start over again.

This has been a terrible hunting season for me. With the drought, warm (hot) winter,an abundance of acorns on the ground, and non-growing food plots-drought,all of the animals have stayed nocturnal.
We've shot a bunch of coyotes and skunks, and my friend has shot several hogs on his ranch, but everytime I have traveled up there not much is moving around.
I could've shot a doe a few weeks ago,but she kept looking behind her and we thought maybe a buck was going to come out of the woods so I didn't take her. And,after waiting nothing else that came out of the woods, and it was getting dark,so I let her walk.
The hogs are starting to come back on his place, and I'll be heading back up there in the morning.Maybe,I'll get to shoot a couple hogs and a doe or spike this time.

Deer season has been closed for more than a week over here.
