I have only ever deer hunted twice in my life. The first time was a year and a half ago,I was taken out by my father in law and on the second hour of opening day,I put a .270 Weatherby magnum right through the heart of a big buck from about 30 yards, head on,and he was dead before he dropped. The next year I went out alone and had an antlerless tag,and on the second day out I saw a huge doe and when it got broadside 40 yards away I shot at it's kill zone with my .444 Marlin. She went down instantly and was dead in about 90 seconds, and as I looked at her I reilized I made a high gut shot.I have never had to track a deer and I think I might just be lucky. __________________ S&W 915 9mm

I usually track them before shooting! Here in NH it has been like all the deer go into hiding during hunting season. As I say to my middle son, you must have pissed on your boots for luck. __________________ Freedom is not free. The best of us always leave too soon. |

I am in the same boat as jpattersonnh up here in northern Vermont. Maybe it is just good luck, but I wouldn't question it if I had yours!
Nice job. __________________ "People live too long, dogs don't live long enough" - FTF Member- |

I shot a running doe once at 40 yards right behind her shoulders, took out the spine and she dropped in her mid jump. She was on a downhill with a spring nearby for clean-up.....Man that was good.
Congrats on those beauties. __________________ DON'T BUY DELL!!!!!

I found out that I am even luckier than I thought.Apparently I bought 265 grain leverevolution ammo for my .444.I just found out that my .444 is a 1 in 38" microgroove barrel made to use only 240 grain ammo.I think that and the bad scope job I did attributed to my off shot. When my Father in law handed me his .270WBYmag the year before with a 50mm scope,I had no problem getting within 2" of the exact point I aimed on the deer.I can't afford a good scope for my old .444,so i'm doing the iron sights and 240 grainers this season. __________________ S&W 915 9mm
