A .410 is not ideal, more than likley the deer will run fast and far after being shot and you will need to track it,but it will work, just keep in mind that alot,if not most .410's are full choked and not the best for slugs, they are meant for concentrating the small amount of birdshot that a .410 holds for killing squirrels and rabbits at short to medium range.I am not an expert of slugs/chokes/shotguns,but see if your gun has a choke,it should say on the gun, like "modified","full","improved"" etc,if it has a choke I would ask someone who knows more about using slugs in chokes.

Default Deer hunting w/ a 410 shotgun

A friend of mine used the 410 shotgun with slugs to kill several deer. His dad had got him that shotgun for a shotgun only lease they were on. He was very sucessful and never indicated he thought he was undergunned.

I've heard of several people using a 410 is a slug to take deer. I wouldn't want to do it but that don't mean it can't be done. Those slugs are not all that weak. If I was to do it I would want to be pretty close. Mainly due to my lack of experience with that p[articular round

Tell you the truth.. I wouldn't hesitate to take my .410 out with slugs. Not to say anything.. but Ive seen many a deer dropped with a 36 grain .22lr through the lung/heart. Just make sure your aiming for the kill zone and let her rip! (The Slugs Ive used in my .410 are 1/2)

Just to let you know, a .410 is a .410 Bore, not gauge. It is the only Shotgun commonly known by its bore diameter. In terms of Gauge its comes out to be somewhere around 67.5 gauge. not trying to be a a-hole. Just for future reference.
