I would use a .357 if I had to, but I think the .41 or 44 mag is minimum for some of the big hogs we got down here in central/south Texas and I would use at least a 260 gr. cast or JHP, just feel more comfortable but a .357 is better than a rock I guess.

I've killed at least seven or eight hogs with a 6" S&W 686 loaded with
Doubletap hard cast 180grn wfngc (wide flat nose gas check). The
subjects involved expired quickly. Be advised that this round has
noticable recoil and noise.

As long as it's loaded heavy and with hard cast bullets with NO expansion and a wide flat meplat that gives a powerful impact for bone busting energy.

I have killed hogs with a security six before they usually stop dead.

My 45 ACP worked just fine. Its all about shot placement. Wild Boar have a Cartalige plate across the chest area, On a big boar , its about half an inch thick. You want shoot them quarting away behind the ear. I have dropped a lot of them with .22 loads.I shot this one last week... 45 of course...

very few people are good shots with a .45acp, hard to get a decent group at 20 yards mush less put it behind a pigs ear especially if he is a big #300 and might be coming your way, you will find yourself wishing you had a good revolver like I said at least a .41.
